HOW DO WE HELP?

HOW DO WE HELP

At The Big Brother Project, we believe that every boy deserves consistent guidance, support, and access to positive male role models.

Our programs are designed to meet boys where they are, providing mentorship, community, and practical tools to help them grow into confident, responsible, and resilient young men.

OUR APPROACH

We use a combination of group programs, one-to-one mentorship, and community engagement to make an impact.

Our approach emphasizes:

  • Consistency: Regular engagement builds trust, confidence, and long-term growth.

  • Guidance: Age-appropriate mentorship helps boys navigate academic, social, and personal challenges.

  • Community: Boys are supported by volunteers, peers, and leaders who model healthy relationships and accountability.

  • Empowerment: We focus on developing skills, confidence, and purpose rather than just telling boys what to do.

OUR PROGRAMS

1. Group Programs

  • Our group programs provide structured learning, conversation, and mentorship for boys to explore topics like masculinity, leadership, communication, and personal responsibility. These programs include:

    • Becoming a Man Without an Example: A four-week self-paced program for boys who have limited exposure to positive male role models.

    • Men Who Beat the Streets: A four-week program designed to provide guidance and tools for navigating challenging social environments.

    • MORE PROGRAMS ARE IN DEVELOPMENT AND ARE COMING SOON

  • All programs are free to access and designed to meet boys at their current stage of development.

2. Personal Big Brother Program

  • In our Personal Big Brother Program, trained volunteers are matched one-to-one with a boy to provide consistent, individualized mentorship.

  • Personal Big Brothers act as friends, guides, and positive male influences, spending quality time with their Little Brother regularly.

    • Volunteers commit to mentoring one child only to maintain quality and avoid burnout.

    • Meetings are flexible but occur at least once per month.

    • Expenses for activities, transportation, and meals are reimbursed to ensure accessibility.

    • All volunteers complete screening, training, and ongoing oversight to guarantee safety and effectiveness.

3. Chapter-Led Community Engagement

  • Our chapters are local hubs led by student leaders, often based at college campuses. Chapters support both volunteers and youth in the community by:

    • Mentoring boys in local schools (elementary through high school)

    • Providing tutoring, guidance, and social support

    • Organizing group activities and workshops

    • Creating a community of accountability for volunteers and participants

  • Chapters operate under the oversight of The Big Brother Project to ensure all programs are safe, consistent, and aligned with our mission.

Supporting Families and Communities

Beyond direct mentorship, we also help families and communities by providing:

  • Academic support, tutoring, and guidance

  • Resources for extracurricular activities, sports, and school supplies

  • Emotional support and referrals to counseling or therapy when needed

  • Eventual scholarships and opportunities for personal development

Our goal is to strengthen not only individual boys but also the families and communities around them.

Why Our Approach Works?

We combine structure, mentorship, and community to create lasting impact.

Boys who engage in our programs gain:

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Social and emotional skills

  • Academic motivation and support

  • Positive male role models

  • A sense of belonging and community

By focusing on consistency, relationship-building, and empowerment, The Big Brother Project helps boys overcome obstacles and thrive.
